Scope of works

Installation of two rooftop air conditioning condensers, refrigerant pipework and associated electrical connections, including craning of plant to roof level.

Risk assessment

Each hazard is rated on a 5×5 matrix, likelihood × severity, before and after the control measures: 1–6 is low, 8–12 medium and 15–25 high. These are the rows RAMS Pal generates for these hazards, highest initial risk first, and every one is edited to fit the actual job before the document is issued.

HazardWho is harmedInitial ratingControl measuresResidual rating
Working at heightOperatives, persons below204×5Work planned to avoid height where reasonably practicable. Access equipment selected for the task and inspected before use. Collective protection (guard rails, edge protection) before personal protection. Where fall arrest is required, harness and lanyard worn with a suitable anchor point. Exclusion zone established below the work area. Work stopped in high winds or heavy rain.51×5
Lifting operationsOperatives, persons in the vicinity153×5Lift plan prepared by a competent person and briefed to everyone involved. Appointed person, crane supervisor, slinger and signaller identified. Lifting equipment and accessories within their thorough examination date and inspected before use. Exclusion zone maintained; no one under a suspended load. Lift stopped if the wind exceeds the plan limit.51×5
Electrical shockOperatives153×5Safe isolation procedure followed: identify, isolate, secure with lock-off and tag, prove the tester, test dead, re-prove the tester. Work carried out dead wherever reasonably practicable. 110V CTE tools used in preference to 230V. All portable equipment within test date and visually inspected before use.41×4
Manual handlingOperatives124×3Mechanical aids used where available. Loads assessed before lifting; two-person lift for awkward or heavy items. Route checked and cleared before carrying. Operatives briefed on safe lifting technique. Loads broken down where practicable.42×2
Adverse weatherOperatives93×3Forecast checked each morning before work at height begins. Work at height stopped in wind speeds above the equipment manufacturer's limit, and in ice, heavy rain or lightning. Surfaces checked for ice before access. Hydration and shade provided in hot weather.31×3
