What a RAMS for groundworkers has to show
A groundworks RAMS is judged on the permit to dig and the excavation support. Sites want to see the service drawings obtained, the CAT and genny scan and trial holes before machine digging, how the excavation will be supported or battered, and how people are kept apart from plant. CDM 2015 makes excavation collapse and buried services specific duties, and HSG47 is the guidance a groundworks method statement is read against.
A RAMS Pal document for groundworks asks about excavations, buried services, moving plant, dust, noise and vibration, and produces the permit to dig, the service avoidance steps, the excavation support and edge protection, the plant and pedestrian segregation and the exposure controls in the method statement. Confined spaces in deep excavations and chambers are scored where they apply.
Excavations, drainage installation, foundations, service diversions, concrete pours and site clearance are all covered, and the competencies section records CPCS or NPORS plant tickets and CSCS cards for each operative.
