RAMS for Roofers

A roofing RAMS is judged on how it prevents falls, because falls from height remain the most common cause of fatal injury in UK construction. The Work at Height Regulations 2005 require the work to be planned, supervised and carried out with collective protection such as edge protection or guarded scaffolds before any reliance on harnesses, and a site will look for that hierarchy in the document.

A RAMS Pal document for roofing work asks how the roof is accessed, what the working height is, whether the public are below and how materials get up and down. The answers become the access arrangements, the edge protection and exclusion zones, the falling-object controls and the weather limits in the method statement, alongside the manual handling of tiles, sheets and rolls and the interface with the public below.

Pitched roof repairs, flat roof re-covering, leadwork, gutter replacement, fascia and soffit work and roof inspections all use the same set of questions, so a small firm can issue a document for each job rather than reuse a generic one the site will reject.
