Scope of works

Welding of structural steel bracing within an operational warehouse bay, including temporary works support, hot works controls and segregation from warehouse operations.

Risk assessment

Each hazard is rated on a 5×5 matrix, likelihood × severity, before and after the control measures: 1–6 is low, 8–12 medium and 15–25 high. These are the rows RAMS Pal generates for these hazards, highest initial risk first, and every one is edited to fit the actual job before the document is issued.

HazardWho is harmedInitial ratingControl measuresResidual rating
Working at heightOperatives, persons below204×5Work planned to avoid height where reasonably practicable. Access equipment selected for the task and inspected before use. Collective protection (guard rails, edge protection) before personal protection. Where fall arrest is required, harness and lanyard worn with a suitable anchor point. Exclusion zone established below the work area. Work stopped in high winds or heavy rain.51×5
Hot worksOperatives, other trades, building occupants153×5Hot works permit obtained before work starts. Combustible materials removed from the area or protected with fire blankets. Suitable extinguisher within immediate reach. Fire watch maintained during the work and for at least 60 minutes after it finishes. Smoke and heat detection isolated only with written permission and reinstated the same day.41×4
Falling objectsOperatives, persons below, public123×4Exclusion zone established and signed below all overhead work. Toe boards and brick guards fitted to scaffolds. Tools tethered when used at height. Materials raised and lowered by hoist or rope, never dropped or thrown.41×4
NoiseOperatives, other trades, occupants124×3Quieter work methods and equipment selected where available. Hearing protection provided and worn where noise exceeds the upper action value of 85 dB(A). Noisy operations scheduled to limit exposure and to avoid other trades where possible. Job rotation used to reduce individual exposure time.42×2
FireOperatives, building occupants, public102×5Ignition sources controlled and combustible waste removed daily. Means of escape kept clear at all times. Site fire procedure and assembly point confirmed at induction. Extinguishers available and in date. No storage of flammables in escape routes.41×4
